Experience: Mr. Watts started his construction career with his father, Lubye Watts, at age 10, installing base and trim in houses. By age 17, he was a construction foreman, building ESSO, Gulf and Texaco service stations. He also worked for Lyles Electric and Star Engineering, performing electrical and mechanical work. After serving in the Coast Guard, Mr. Watts entered the Louisiana State University School of Architecture and began part-time work with Lewis P. Manson & Associates, Architects. The Manson firm specialized in Hospitals, Banks and Office Buildings, and Mr. Watts became proficient in design of these building types. It has been said that the firm did everything from "rabbit hutches to 14 story buildings". Some projects of note that Mr. Watts managed are Republic Tower (now Dean Tower), Wooddale Tower, East and West Wings of the Baton Rouge General Hospital, Westbank Ford Dealership, 505 N. Boulevard Building, Riveroaks Elementary School, Park Forest Elementary School and Bob & Jakes Restaurant. Mr. Watts purchased the Manson firm in 1980 and continued its excellent reputation with projects such as Mamacita's Mexican Restaurant, Zorba's Greek Restaurant, Jack Owens Dental Clinic, Evelyn Hayes Medical Office, Thomas, Wilson, Ragusa, Uffman & Co., CPA's Office, Branch Banks for Bank of St. Charles, St. James Bank and Trust, American Bank and Trust, and most recently two new branches for Fidelity Bank & Trust Co. The style of architecture that Mr. Watts provides is that which is best suited to the Client and the site. He will go the extra mile to provide the best innovative solution to any design problem. The success of Jerry L. Watts and his firm is evident by over 80% of its annual client base being additional services for previous clients. Jerry L. Watts & Associates, LLC has received both local and national design awards for its architectural services. |
